Saint Patrick Church

History

1966 through 2002

Under the leadership of Father Eviston, and the hard work of many parishioners, St. Patrick was established in 1966. Bishop Ackerman selected Reverend Cyril Eviston as the first pastor of this newly established parish in the diocese. The Jovial Irishman had the support of many people in the area, so the parish began. After saying Mass in the gym at Taylor Mill Elementary School, the cornerstone was laid in September 1968.  The first Mass was celebrated in the new building on December 22, 1968.

In 1971, Father Reilly was appointed pastor of St. Pat’s. He continued to help the seeds grow planted by Father Eviston. When he retired in 1983, Father Edwin Heile was appointed as the new pastor. Father Heile watched the parish grow and was instrumental in raising money to purchase the stained glass windows for the church that we enjoy today.

When Father Heile was reassigned in 1995, Father Gerald Witzemann became our pastor. Father Witzemann continued the supervision of the installation of the remaining stained glass windows.

When Father Witzemann retired in July, 2000, Bishop Muench appointed Father Jeffrey VonLehman as our new pastor. Among other changes in the appearance of the church itself, Father Jeff is responsible for acquiring the beautiful statue of our patron Saint, St. Patrick and the parish sign. Father Jeff’s style of spiritual leadership helps our parishioners continue to grow in their faith.
